Art Challenge

 Art Challenge

For this week, we wanted to use up all of our supplies as we had so much lying around. Therefore, we decided to do an art challenge where the girls had to make anything with the supplies we had. The rules are they only have to use the supplies we have and nothing else. We had colored paper, beads, paints, magazines, markers, and stationary supplies. Using these materials the girls had to make something creative!

Here are the girls art work and a reflection of what there art work is about:

The program, FEMME, is referenced in the artwork I created with the pink paper that was provided. Since this is a female-oriented program, I thought that painting something that focused on the primary themes of what this association does would be a smart idea. To show that not all women are the same and that we all have distinctive features, I painted a few women of various skin tones, including black, brown, and even light skin.

  • My vision board shows all the things that I love and cherish. I have my family and friends, my favourite season (Fall and Winter) and my favourite show (Pretty Little Liars). I have my favourite movie, Tangled. I also have books because I love to read in my spare time and I have flowers because I love looking at fields of flowers and love to smell them. I added the Toronto skyline as well because I have lived in Toronto my whole life and I love living here.

  • I added these pictures because these are the things that I have loved for a long time so all these pictures are special to me.

  • This vision board means “Cherished things” to me. All these things are something that I have grown to love overtime and have a sentimental meaning behind it. Everything in this vision board makes me happy and reminds me of the things I love.

For this art challenge, I painted my edition/version of Cinderella’s ballgown because personally, I feel like if femininity was an object, it’d be a princess’ dress. I made this because I love embracing my femininity and being a woman. It’s the little things that make me appreciate being a woman; for example, elegance.

My art piece is a collage of world-class brands. I chose to do this because while I was going through the magazines, I realized brands Gucci and Versace only had female models with brunette or blonde hair. With “girly” colors, like pink and purple. My art piece is like a protest since we women can wear anything we like. It is blue, and green, we can do anything. So I decided to rip out anything “girly” I saw, with famous brands. For example, on the Prada perfume page, I saw a female wearing “girly” clothes, dresses, florals, and heavy makeup. Why not use something else? Why not a girl with a shirt? Or a person with no makeup? We’re all beautiful in our way, with acne, freckles, and crooked teeth. We need a brand that will represent our insecurities which make us women, better than ever.

My poster includes a picture of an Emirates plane because I would like to travel the world some day. I included multiple Islamic paintings with Arabic writing on them. I included a diamond ring and a diamond because I want to be successful and have the money to buy those kinds of things. I also put a picture of a basketball because basketball is my favorite sport and I enjoy watching NBA games. I also added a piece with MAHA written on it because Maha is my middle name.

I decided to make a MONOCHROME VISION BOARD. It didn't exactly had an idea or thought behind it but that was the first thing that came in my mind and it was easy too. I cut-ed down pictures from a magazine and started sticking on my paper. There were pictures of places, buildings, bridges, and mountains around the world. After I completed it I think it turned out pretty good and I liked it a lot. This was my thought behind my vision board!

I made a poster that has flowers around the border and in the center on the poster I wrote “FEMME”. The flowers I tried drawing/ painted were roses and sunflowers. I painted flowers because I really like to draw them and to me flowers represents femme. I made this because Femme reminds me of flowers and I wanted to do a poster that associated with femme and there logo.

The piece that I have created is a pink poster with blooming flowers. And not just that, but above the flowers is a quote by Alexander den heijer; “When a flower doesn't bloom, you fix the environment in which it grows, not the flower.” I thought of doing this quote because I first heard it at Jarvis MSA. It was also written on their Instagram bio. So, why not make a poster with this beautiful quote, and the meaning is also astonishing. To me, this quote means reassurance. In a sense that we should build an environment in which we all feel welcome. I made this poster because the quote in itself talks about the importance of growing a flower in an environment that is suitable for it to grow. I connected this thought with FEMME. It is a program of female empowerment, and how to value yourself as a woman living in society, breaking the stereotypes around us, and much more! I see femme as a sisterhood. Where strangers meet up together and get together. If we don’t get to know one another, then how do we expect to build a good and healthy environment? ‘change the environment here at the house to make it feel as safe as possible in order to make it the best conceivable place for each of our different personalities to learn, grow, and thrive.’ - simplesimonandco. Thus, to conclude, these were my reasoning as to why I created this piece of work, and what it means to me ❤️
